Why is Marijuana illegal when it could protect against cancer?
“studies have found that moderate cannabis use may protect against head and neck cancers, as well as lung cancer. Some studies have shown that cannabidiol may also be useful in treating breast cancer.” — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_(drug)
and for those who are gonna b*tch about wikipedia, here’s 3 other sources:

Prohibition of certain substances has not always been rational. In the Reagan years, the “just say no to drugs” campaign had a strong, and long-lasting effect on the national psyche. Many people today still equate marijuana use with cocaine or heroin use.
Marijuana is a drug. Like all drugs, it has potential benefits and is potentially harmful if misused. Proponents often forget this last part, but there is such a thing as marijuana abuse. Smoking so much that procrastination becomes a way of life is certainly not beneficial. Also, marijuana has been associated with lung cancer, etc…
It is my opinion, however, that marijuana, because of its relative innocuousness and because it is so commonly used, does more harm to society illegal than legal. But until stigma is put away, we won’t have an adult discussion on this, or any other drug. And our political climate is unfortunately very averse to adult discussions about drugs.
