Antidepressant is used most commonly in the psychiatric medication which is used to cure or give temporary relief to the depression dysthymia. Dysthymia mean milder depression. There are several groups of medicine which mainly related to antidepressant drugs.
Antidepressants are also used to treat various other disorders other than depression. This antidepressant also aid smoking cessation. According to researcher there are two reasons to consider, that smoking can be stopped with the help of antidepressants.
The first reason can be that the depression may be an indication of nicotine removal, and stoppage of smoking can precipitates depression. Second reasons can be nicotine which may have antidepressant gist that sustains smoking for some smokers. Antidepressants can be a substitute for the smoking habits.
There are many smokers who want to quit and they are not able quit the smoking habits. There is some therapy used to stop smoking cessation such as NRT (nicotine patches or gum). There are some other option used for smoke cessation that are antidepressants drugs. These antidepressants are mainly used to reduce or cure depression.
Researchers have proved that when antidepressants used with nortriptyline and nicotine patch may help to stop smoking. There are various different types of antidepressant medication that are effective to stop smoking habits. But according to the studies conducted by the researchers has terminated that nortriptyline when blended with transdermal nicotine ensued the stop rate of smoker.
This result took place with petite effect on removal of symptoms. Many researchers have done studies to find the remedy for smoking cessation. The researchers were successful in their research and they found many remedy of stopping the smoking habit.
According to their research conducted bupropion and nortriptyline proved to be very effective to cessation. In one trail the researchers found that bupropion with nicotine patch gave slight higher cessation rate than patch alone. Even though placing a limit on smoking can reduce the death rates but is not yet totally successful.
Conclusion
After many trails and studies researcher found that all the antidepressants are not able to stop smoking habits. But there were two antidepressants which proved to be good for smoking cessation. The researchers also found that some antidepressant used to stop smoking habits had side effects on the smoker.
The use of bupropion causes side effects like insomnia. Other side effect which was found by the use of such drugs was dry mouth and vomiting. So it can be concluded that the antidepressants are successful in smoking cessation, but some time it also results into side effects.

Smoking Cessation with Weight Gain Prevention: Facilitator Guide: A Group Program $35 Cigarette smoking is the single greatest preventable cause of death, disease, and disability in the United States. It is the number one cancer killer of women, surpassing breast cancer. More than 70% of smokers have expressed a desire to quit, but are unable to do so alone. Independent cessation is extremely difficult, with a long-term success rate of 3-9%.Couple this difficulty with the fact that many female (and some male) smokers do not even try to quit because they are afraid of the resulting weight gain, and it seems a near impossibility for smokers to quit alone.Any amount of counseling, from even one ten-minute session, drastically improves a person’s chances for cessation success. Many therapists have clients who smoke, yet they do not encourage them to quit because they feel under-equipped to help them. There are very few books for mental health workers that teach smoking cessation techniques; almost all of the books on the market are self-help based. Of those that are for the clinician, most are not user-friendly at all, and none discuss the secondary concerns of weight gain. This guide teaches therapists, in easy to follow session modules, proven methods for their clients to stop smoking, and to avoid the resulting weight gain. Structured as a 16-week group program, this treatment teaches clients to break their smoking habit first, then to avoid replacing that habit with unhealthy eating. Using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), this treatment emphasizes skill-building and the use of self-monitoring forms (found in the accompanying workbook) to help clients take control of their health.TreatmentsThatWorkTM represents the gold standard of behavioral healthcare interventions!· All programs have been rigorously tested in clinical trials and are backed by years of research· A prestigious scientific advisory board, led by series Editor-In-Chief David H.
